Donald Trump is Back on Twitter

Image
Former President Donald Trump has been officially reinstated on Twitter after being banned after the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol in 2021. The decision came from Elon Musk, who recently bought the social media platform. Musk did a poll on the platform and a slight majority wanted him back.  Photo from NPR     The left are not particularly happy with the decision. Vox , a left news source says " Civil rights groups like the NAACP, the Anti-Defamation League, and Color of Change have criticized Musk’s decision to reinstate Trump, arguing that the  former president’s Twitter presence poses a threat to democracy , and that Musk has been erratic and unclear in his decision-making process. "(Ghaffary, 2022).     Many people are not surprised by Musk's choice, saying he has already made a string of bad choices on Twitter, jabbing at both the President and the billionaire .      Vox also found the choice to be a n...

Is Ron DeSantis Running for President in 2024?

Image
The Republican Governor of Florida is the topic of rumor as word is spreading about his possible run for presidency in 2024. His recent fame has put him in the news many times before and has therefor either made you love him or hate him.      As this is not confirmed by DeSantis or anyone associated to him, this is being reported rather calmly, mostly a "keep your eyes open for this" style. Many people have either announced their goal to run or have also been rumored and it seems the rumors will only grow.  Picture by NBC     It seems neither side is too thrilled to hear of the possibility of DeSantis running, but for very different reasons. Fox News writers Andrew Murray and Paul Steinhauser say that Trump has announced his third run and this now competes with who the Republican nomination will go to. Surely, between now and then more information will come out and hopefully make the better choice clear.   ...

Nancy Pelosi Is Stepping Down: What Are People Saying?

Image
Nancy Pelosi announced she is stepping down as Speaker of The House on Thursday, November 17, 2022. Though she does not plan to leave entirely. She will remain a member in the house after her two decade long involvement with the Hose of Representatives. For some, this was an upsetting announcement as she was well liked by the democratic party and many others. Some people, however, were pleased to hear of the news and took to the internet to show their joy.       Photo from Vox     Vox was definitely sad to see the first women to ever hold the position of Speaker of The House leave. The article titled, Nancy Pelosi was really, really good at her job.   The last of writer, Li Zhou's opening talks about her accomplishments, including the Affordable Care Act and American Rescue plan to name a few from Zhou's list.      The rest of the article is an interview with Molly Ball, a Time Political Correspondent and th...

Georgia's runoff election is set for December 6, 2022 after none of the three candidates got above a 50% majority vote. Walker ended with 48.5% while Warnock ended with 49.4%. Third party candidate Chase Oliver gained a 2.1% vote and will not be considered in the upcoming election.       The state has been biting their nails as we await the next round of results that will decide the next member of the Senate for Georgia. Involvement in this election has been impressive. According to Fox News , more than a quarter million people showed up to vote in just one day, breaking the state record. Fox News is relatively unbiased in their article, posted by Danielle Wallace. She mentions that the results of this race could be the difference in the Senate being an equal 50-50 or democrats holding majority.      CNN has a different approach to their coverage on the election. The article titled, Opinion: Trump's Shadow Hangs Over Herschel ...

Senate Passes Same-Sex Marriage Bill

Image
November 15, 2022 will be an important day for the LGBTQ community and allies. The senate passed a same-sex marriage bill, which will offer federal protection for same- sex couples. The vote was 61-36, 12 of which were republicans. It is to be sent to the House soon and then President Biden's desk for the final stamp of approval.       "Democrats have said the bill is necessary after conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas wrote in his concurring opinion in  Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization  earlier this year that the Court “should reconsider” its decisions in  Griswold v. Connecticut ,  Lawrence v. Texas , and  Obergefell v. Hodges,  which established a right to contraception, privacy in the bedroom, and same-sex marriage, respectively." (Bernstein, 2022).      Photo by Mindful      I feel as though this topic is large enough to talk about, but I have to admi...

Florida's "Don't Say Gay" Bill and What People are Saying

Image
The State of Florida has made more waves than even the ocean can keep up with. The "Don't Say Gay" bill, also known as the Florida Parental Rights Act, was passed on March 28th of 2022. The backlash has been brutal and it is clear from the variety of news articles you can read that people are heated about it on both sides.  Photo from NBC     The bias here is quite clear as well as the feelings, making it difficult to even find out what the bill directly says. I usually only need two sources for each blog, but this time I need three.           According to flgov.com , " Parental Rights in Education, which reinforces parents’ fundamental rights to make decisions regarding the upbringing of their children." Essentially, it allows parents to have a more direct role in their children's education. There are rules in place such as not teaching students about sexual orientation or gender identify until 3rd grade and wha...

401K and How Change May be Coming

President Joe Biden and his team released a statement of Tuesday November 22, 2022 that will effectively change the way people can invest their 401k retirement plans. This change was made after former President Donald Trump made his own rule regarding 401k plans that made it easier to invest in the economy and business than most other investment options. Biden's plan, which is set to go into effect in less than 60 days, will make it easier to invest in "impact" or ESG initiatives. Examples of this would be social justice or climate change.       Two articles, one from Fox News and the other from CNBC reported on the news in their own ways.      Fox News is a known right-leaning news source and this article is no different. The title alone shows you the bias that is to follow, " Biden wants your retirement savings to go woke. Here are 3 ways to protect yourself ".      The main issue brought up in this article, ...
